Mom's Day 2015 with Kappa Delta

While creating beautiful and stunning arrangements has become second nature to those of us at Rose of Sharon Floral Design in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to many it is a rather daunting and terrifying task. On Saturday, February 21st we teamed up with the Kappa Delta ladies from the University of Arkansas to share some tricks of the trade in a mother and daughter floral design class to celebrate Mom’s Day.

Mom’s Day, not to be confused with Mother’s Day, is an annual Kappa Delta tradition celebrating the special bond between mothers and daughters. Our local chapter of Kappa Delta invites their mothers down for a day of bonding activities, food and quality time. Every year the girls choose different activities to share with their mothers. This year they learning a few techniques for caring and designing with flowers and left with a one of a kind arrangement designed by them.

After a few short introductions each class selected their supplies, using the recipe provided as a guide. While the basic recipe only contained five different flowers, a choice of three fillers and two types of foliage, the varieties of designs, color schemes and personal creativity left us with 75 completely different arrangements at the end of the day.

Every class was filled with laughter and smiles as works of art were created with hydrangeas, roses, alstroemeria and spray roses. A few ladies commented at the end that they had been hesitant to come to the class because they thought it would be difficult but had were happily proven wrong with their final product. Two very enthusiastic Kappa Deltas even stayed after the class to chat with us about flowers, our design work, our love of the craft and our wedding designs.
