From Inspiration to Reality: Winter Elopement at St. Catherine's at Bell Gable
If you’ve planned or helped plan a wedding in the past 10 years, you know that Pinterest is an excellent source of inspiration for all aspects of a wedding. In fact, I use Pinterest to create inspiration boards for each and every wedding I design. When a bride reaches out to me for information about wedding flowers or requests a wedding consultation, I always ask for a few inspiration pictures to help me capture the bride’s vision. 9/10 times (if not more!) those pictures come from Pinterest. This beautiful February elopement is a great example of an inspiration bouquet brought to reality.
INSPIRATION
The bride provided the inspiration picture (seen right) for her intimate winter ceremony at St. Catherine’s of Bell Gable. Lush plum and burgundy blooms, semi-organic style, lots of texture, exposed stems, trailing vines. I used this inspiration to guide my choices for her bouquet.
REALITY
One important factor to keep in mind when looking at pictures of flowers on Pinterest (or anywhere online) is the seasonal availability and cost of the flowers in the picture. Sometimes your budget may not allow for some of the more expensive flowers in the inspiration photo. Or the flowers you’re looking at are from a summer wedding and you’re planning a winter wedding. That can mean that some of the flowers are out of season and unavailable for your wedding.
Talk to your florist; find out what’s feasible for your budget and needs. Ask them what flowers are in season or what may have a similar aesthetic.
For example, I used many of the same flowers from the inspiration picture for this bouquet including burgundy roses, deep plum scabiosa, hypericum berries, and fluffy ranunculus. Dahlias are out of season in February and don’t like the cold. (They’re also pretty expensive when out of season). To keep the color theme consistent I selected gorgeous plum calla lilies instead of the dahlias seen in the inspiration photo.
