Salt Plains Styled Shoot

Photographer: Grace Starr Photography and Kim Christopher Photography

What Is A Styled Shoot?

“A styled shoot is simply a collaborative effort of multiple creatives who put their talents and resources together to create a stunning visual concept to be photographed.” (from this article) I often get inquiries from photographers, event coordinators, or event venues asking to collaborate on styled (photo)shoots. Sometimes there is a vision for these shoots and other times I have total creative liberty to design whatever I want. Sometimes I’m offered compensation for materials/time and other times it’s a volunteer opportunity. I decide whether I want to participate based on my availability, the amount of material/time requested, and how I feel about the creative vision for the shoot. I enjoy these shoots because they are opportunities to flex my creative muscles, try new design styles or techniques, and work with other wedding vendors in the community.

This Styled Shoot

For this shoot, Grace of Grace Starr Photography reached out to me somewhat last minute for a bouquet she wanted to use at a styled wedding shoot at Great Salt Plains State Park in Jet, Oklahoma. She shared her mood board and I loved her vision for the shoot — earth tones, organic textures, painted skies, and salt plain as far as the eye can see. This was another shoot that had multiple photographers (see another shoot with multiple photographers here). Kim of Kim Christopher Photography also photographed this shoot. We always enjoy the subtle differences between how photographers capture the same material. Check out two of their images side by side. Isn’t it cool to see the subtleties of light, angle, framing, and editing? So much talent!

What Did I Use?

Since it was last minute, I had to work with what I had available. Some of the foliage was foraged from my yard and I custom-tinted some of the flowers since I didn’t have time to order special product. The bouquet is an organic bouquet in earth tones containing gorgeous custom-tinted standard roses, rich burgundy spray roses, fluffy white scabiosa, unique leucadendron, seeded eucalyptus, spiky gravillia, and foraged branches and blossoms . I left the stems exposed and tied it off with a variety of earth-toned ribbons.

Check out the gorgeous images below. I am so excited about how they turned out and I think you’ll love them as much as I do!
