Opulent Orchid Wedding at Sassafras Springs Vineyard

Photos: Jason Hudson

One of my favorite things about weddings is the sheer number of floral ingredients I get to work with for one event. BUT sometimes a simple and chic event comes along that reminds me that beautiful has no boundaries or rules. For Samantha and Jordan’s day, we focused on one main flower, white orchids, and built an opulent, romantic ambiance that was absolute breathtaking.

For her bouquet, Samantha showed me pictures of white orchids with crisp green foliage accents. We took it one step further and created a cascading bouquet of Phalaenopsis orchids, Italian Ruscus, and Lily Grass. It was a literal orchid waterfall and it looked so lush and chic next to her off the shoulder dress. For Jordan's boutonniere we used one big beautiful orchid bloom. It was fun and eye-catching; a modern take on the usual small bloomed bout.

For their reception, we weaved trailing Ruscus in between tall white pillar candles. High trumpet vases full of cascading orchids and low groups of foliage and candles filled the room. The cake was adorned with a cascade of orchids and it has to be one of my favorite parts of the day. It truly was an opulent fairytale come to life! We think we captured Samantha’s vision perfectly, but don’t take our word for it, take hers:

“When a girl wants phalo orchids for her wedding, she gets phalo orchids! I just loved my orchids so much! They were beautiful. Althea executed my vision perfectly! She worked with me during our postponement during COVID and kept her quoted fees the same, even though the prices went up in 2021. Everyone said I looked beautiful, and my response was always, “Thank you, but did you see the orchids?!?!” 😍” - Samantha, Bride

The talented Jason Hudson photographed this gorgeous event! Take a look at the magical images below.
