Missing What You Can’t Have On Mother’s Day
My Mom lives 15 minutes away & I see her on a semi-regular basis. Well, at least before mid-March, I did. I’m close with both my Mom and my two sisters; we have a wonderful relationship. We laugh together often and help each other whenever needed. And we always —ALWAYS— hug each other when we are together. Our visits start and end with a hug. Always.
This is one of the things I miss most about our current situation. I can’t hug my Mom. We’re visiting more often, thanks to Zoom. But there are no hugs. I want a hug from my Mom! I want to wrap her up in my arms and just hold on…and be held by her. Because there is little that compares to a hug from Mom.
Next week is Mother’s Day. For florists, this is one of the biggest days of the year. Usually, Mom will help by delivering flowers for me. But not this year. This year, she’s staying away from people as much as possible because she doesn’t want to get sick and be a burden to me or my sisters. So I won’t be seeing her on Mother’s Day. She won’t be out-working me (because even at 70 she has more energy and can work longer and harder than anyone I’ve ever met!). I won’t be giving her a hug at the end of the day or thanking her for (once again) helping me.
Instead, I’ll be working with my team to bring flowers to the moms of all our wonderful customers. Little messages of love and care like these:

I’m glad our children have you for a mom
I’m blessed to have you as a mom

I appreciate you
Thank you for being a great mom
