Funky Colorful Wedding Flowers at The H Club
Photos by: Mikaela Warford
In September, our Marketing Assistant Victoria and her husband Tim eloped in Las Vegas. (Read all about it in the blog post here!) They then had a reception on the Fayetteville square at the H Club and we designed the decor. Victoria’s style is bright, colorful and funky so we had to keep that in mind when designing for her! We interviewed Althea about the event and what it’s like to design for a loved one. Come along and join the party!
What was your approach to designing Victoria and Tim's reception flowers?
Althea: Victoria has a very fun personality and eclectic style so that meant her flowers could not be traditional. The venue was also very non-traditional—it was a speakeasy/bar space and the event was a cocktail party. She loves vibrant color so I knew the palette and vibe had to be fun, exciting, and non-traditional.
What ingredients did you use and which ingredient is your favorite to work with?
Althea: To get that fun look she was after, we used a lot of ingredients! Zinnias, garden roses, scabiosa, ranunculus, delphinium, amaranthus, kangaroo paw, orchids, hypericum berries, spray roses, button mums, and a mix of greenery. Some of them were locally grown flowers and greenery which are always fun to work with and source.
Describe the pieces--what did you design to fill the space?
Olivia: The space was mostly coffee tables and some accent tables so we designed small accent arrangements to make them feel special. The biggest challenge were the taxidermized deer and oxen that dominated the space because these were such unusual features! Victoria and Tim don’t love taxidermy and we couldn't hide so them we decided to lean into the decor by creating wearable flowers for each animal. It was campy and silly! It drew attention to the taxidermy, but in a fun and entertaining way.
What was your favorite piece you designed for the reception and why?
Olivia: The floral crown for the big ox because I haven't done anything else like it in 30 years and it makes me giggle.
Since you were a guest at this event, what was your favorite memory of the evening?
Olivia: It was a great night, but I loved going home. 😆😆😆 I’m a true introvert and I’m glad Victoria accepts me for exactly who I am!
